What Ahwatukee Decks Usually Need
Four things come up at nearly every estimate south of the mountain. None of them is a reason to tear the deck out.
- Worn original Kool Deck. Plenty of Ahwatukee decks still carry their original cement-based Kool Deck, worn smooth and stained but mostly bonded. Genuine Kool Deck only bonds to bare concrete, so redoing it in the same product means stripping the deck first. They are routed, filled with a flexible compound, and feathered so they do not show through the new texture. Cracks driven by real slab movement can come back; if we see the signs, it goes in writing on your estimate.
- An unshaded deck in full sun. Yards that back onto the preserve, a golf course, or open desert often have no shade at all.
