Master Pool Decks is a locally owned pool deck resurfacing company based in Avondale, Arizona, working across the Phoenix Valley. We do one thing: take the hot, cracked, faded concrete around Arizona pools and turn it back into a surface you can stand on barefoot in July. Our slogan — we make your pool cool again — is meant literally. A light cool deck coating runs up to 30°F cooler than bare concrete in direct sun, which in a valley that spends weeks above 115°F is the difference between a deck you use and one everyone crosses at a run.
Who You Are Actually Hiring
We are not going to pretend to be a thirty-year-old institution. Master Pool Decks was founded in 2025 by a Phoenix Valley crew that had already spent years on Arizona concrete working for other companies. We started this one to do the job our way: prep that does not get rushed so a second job fits the same day, a written number that does not move after work starts, and a phone somebody answers. The person who measures your deck is answerable for it, and every photo on this site is a deck we finished ourselves.
What We Do — and What We Don’t
We specialize in coatings and overlays that go on top of concrete you already own:
- Cool deck resurfacing — the light, lace-textured surface most Phoenix homeowners mean by “cool deck.”
- Cool deck repair — crack filling, delamination, and color renewal.
- Flagstone coating and stamped concrete pool decks for a heavier look.
- Concrete, driveway, and patio resurfacing outside the pool fence.
- Epoxy garage floors and sports court resurfacing.
- Commercial and HOA pool decks for apartment communities, resorts, and shared pools.
What we do not do matters as much. We are not a pool builder: no replastering, no tile or coping, nothing touching your equipment. We are not a structural concrete contractor either — if your slab is heaving, sinking, or separated at the joints, no coating fixes it, and we say so at the estimate instead of selling you one. See when to resurface and when to replace.
Where We Work
We run out of Avondale and cover the Valley: Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, Gilbert, Chandler, Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, Goodyear, Avondale, Buckeye, Litchfield Park, Queen Creek, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills, Cave Creek, and Sun City. Inside Phoenix we work by neighborhood, because decks age by vintage: a 1960s slab in Arcadia fails differently than a 1990s build in Ahwatukee or a 2000s deck in North Phoenix.
How a Job Goes, Start to Finish
- 1. We measure on site. Free, Mon–Sat. We sound the deck for hollow spots, read the cracks, check drainage, and measure real square footage.
- 2. You get it in writing. One number, what it includes, and anything that concerns us. No pressure to sign in the driveway.
- 3. We schedule around weather. Fresh coating needs a dry, dust-free window, so in monsoon we book against the forecast.
- 4. Day one is prep and repair. Loose coating off, cracks filled, spalls and low spots corrected, everything masked.
- 5. Texture, color, seal. Lace texture sprayed, color applied, UV-stable sealer on top — 1–2 days on most decks.
- 6. Cure and walkthrough. Light foot traffic after 24–48 hours; furniture and pets wait for the 3–7 day cure. Then we walk it with you and leave the warranty in writing.
Every step in more detail, including how we mask and protect the pool while we work, is on our process page.
What Our Written Estimate Includes
Every quote is measured from your deck, not from a phone call. It states the surface area, the system and texture proposed, your color, the repairs we will make before any coating goes on, the crew days and cure window, and the 2-year warranty language. It also lists whatever worries us — an active crack, a drainage problem, an area where the old coating may keep letting go — written down before you decide. For what actually drives the number, see our pool deck resurfacing cost guide.
Why Surface Prep Is the Whole Job
Almost every failed pool deck coating in Phoenix failed for one reason: it was stuck to something that was not solid. Coating is strong, but it has no opinion about what is underneath it. Coat a hollow, delaminated area and you have only moved the failure up a layer — it pops within a couple of summers and it looks like the coating’s fault.
So prep is where our hours go. Loose material is stripped back to sound concrete. Cracks are opened, filled with a flexible compound, and feathered so they do not telegraph through the texture. Spalls around the coping and skimmer are patched, and old sealers and pool chemical residue come off so the primer bonds to concrete. A fast crew can skip all of that and still hand you a deck that looks perfect the day they leave; you find out in year two. See why pool deck coatings peel in Phoenix.
Our 2-Year Workmanship Warranty, in Plain Terms
Every installation carries a 2-year workmanship warranty on the bond, the application, and the finish of the coating we applied. If our work delaminates, lifts, or fails to adhere within those two years, we come back and fix it. The terms are printed in your estimate before you sign, not mailed afterward.
What it does not cover, said up front so there is no argument later: slab movement, settling, or structural cracks, including ones we flagged in your estimate; close-range pressure washing, which cuts faster than the sun does; furniture dragged across the deck, spilled pool chemicals, and sprinklers left running on the surface; damage from other trades; and anything caused by using the deck before the cure finished. Color fade after years of Arizona sun is wear, not a defect, and we do not offer a permanent warranty on a coating because nobody honestly can. The full list of what is covered and excluded, and how to make a claim, is on our warranty page.
Insurance, Licensing, and Ratings — Stated Plainly
We are insured and will send the certificate if you ask, and you get the same answer on the phone that you are reading here. Arizona contractor licensing can be verified at roc.az.gov. Master Pool Decks is listed with the BBB (not accredited). We publish no rating, no review count and no project count, because we will not put a number in front of you that you cannot check yourself. How we research and review the guides on this site is set out in our editorial policy.
