New surface, same slab. We repair, prep and recoat pool decks across the Phoenix Valley — usually 1–2 days of work, with no demolition.
Resurfacing puts a new walking surface on top of the concrete you already have. The slab stays. We take off whatever has lost its bond, repair the cracks and spalls, prep the concrete so the new coat has something solid to grip, then apply the system that fits your deck and your budget. Done right, it fixes the things that make an old Arizona deck unpleasant: hot underfoot, faded and chalky, stained around the pool, or cracked in a way that catches toes.
It is not the same as a coat of paint. Paint sits on top and peels in a summer or two. A resurfacing system is a textured coating or overlay built for pool water, chlorine and 115°F afternoons, sealed with a UV-stable top coat. And it is not the same as replacement, either. Tearing out a deck and pouring new concrete means demolition, a dumpster, weeks of cure and a much larger bill. If your slab is sound, resurfacing gets you a new-looking deck in days.
This page is the overview for the whole Phoenix Valley. If you are in Phoenix itself, our Phoenix pool deck resurfacing page covers the city in detail, and the city list below links to every area we work in.
The short version. Most residential decks take 1–2 days of work. Light foot traffic returns at 24–48 hours; furniture, pets and pool service wait for the 3–7 day cure. Cool deck coating lasts 10–12 years on a well-prepared deck (5–7 in harsh conditions) and runs up to 30°F cooler than bare concrete, depending on color. Flagstone coating lasts 10–15 years and stamped concrete 12–15. Every job carries our 2-year workmanship warranty, and every project is quoted in writing from the actual surface.
We work across the Valley, West to East. Each city page has local photos, notes on the decks we see there, and its own quote form.
Which one fits depends on the condition of your slab, how the deck gets used, and the look you want. We bring samples to the estimate and set them on your deck in the sun.
The classic Phoenix pool deck finish: a spray-applied lace or knockdown texture, color coat and seal. Light colors run up to 30°F cooler than bare concrete in the sun. Typically 10–12 years.
Cool deck coating →A thin overlay with the stone joints hand-cut on site, so the deck reads as laid flagstone without the weight or the height at doors and coping. 10–15 years.
Flagstone coating →Stone, slate and tile patterns pressed into a concrete surface for deep relief and a heavier look. The most durable option we offer, at 12–15 years, and it runs warmer than a sprayed cool deck.
Stamped concrete pool decks →For an existing Kool Deck or deck that is mostly sound: cracks routed and filled, spalls patched, hollow spots cut out, then a fresh coat to tie it together.
Cool deck repair →Apartments, HOAs, hotels and community pools, phased in sections so part of the pool area stays open while we work.
Commercial pool decks →Good candidates: faded or chalky cool deck, old Kool Deck that is worn but still bonded, plain broom-finish concrete, hairline and surface cracks, and decks where the color or texture is simply dated.
Repair first, then resurface: flaking or hollow-sounding areas, spalling at the pool edge, concrete pitted by years of chlorinated splash-out, and low spots that hold water after a monsoon storm.
Not a resurfacing job: slabs that are heaving or sinking, sections separated at the joints, or concrete that has broken through. No coating will hold on a slab that is moving, so those need concrete work first. We say so at the estimate. Our guide on when to resurface and when to replace walks through the signs.
One note on genuine Keystone Kool Deck®: it bonds only to bare, sound concrete, so redoing a deck in real Kool Deck means stripping every existing coating first. That is why most re-coats of an existing deck are a texture coating system.
Same sequence on every deck. Prep is most of the job. The full walkthrough is on our process page.
We measure on site, sound the deck for hollow spots, check cracks and drainage, and leave you a written quote that names the system, the color and every repair.
Loose coating comes off. Cracks are opened, filled and feathered, spalls at the coping are patched, and residue and old sealer are cleaned off so the primer bonds to concrete.
Texture, flagstone or stamped overlay goes down, then the color coat. Coping and the pool are masked and protected throughout.
A UV-stable sealer goes on last. Light foot traffic at 24–48 hours; furniture and full use after the 3–7 day cure.
Every installation carries our 2-year workmanship warranty on the bond, application and finish of the work we performed. It is written into your estimate, and the details are on our warranty page. We are a locally owned Phoenix Valley crew, founded in 2025 and fully insured, and every photo on our site is our own completed work.
How long the surface lasts depends more on prep and conditions than on the brand of coating. Constant water from sprinklers or shade that never dries, dark colors in full sun, close-range pressure washing and slab movement all shorten it. Upkeep is simple: rinse off chemical splash, keep deck drains clear, and re-seal when the surface starts to look chalky. A re-seal or fresh color coat over sound texture is a short job and far cheaper than starting over. More detail in our guide on how long cool deck lasts in Arizona.
On cost, we do not publish prices because no two decks need the same repairs. Square footage, the amount of failing coating to strip, cracks and spalls, steps and coping, access and the system you choose all move the number. Our pool deck resurfacing cost guide explains each factor, and the estimate itself is free.
Pool deck resurfacing puts a new surface over the concrete you already have instead of tearing it out. We repair cracks and spalls, strip anything that has lost its bond, prep the slab, then apply a new system: a cool deck coating texture, a flagstone overlay, or a stamped overlay. The slab stays; the surface you walk on is new.
Most Phoenix Valley decks can be resurfaced. The concrete underneath has to be sound. Faded or chalky coating, hairline and surface cracks, and small spalls are all resurfacing jobs. Slabs that are heaving, sinking, or separated at the joints need concrete work first, and we tell you that at the estimate rather than coating over it.
It depends on the system. Cool deck coating typically lasts 10–12 years on a well-prepared deck, or 5–7 in harsh conditions like constant water, dark colors in full sun, or slab movement. Flagstone coating lasts 10–15 years and stamped concrete 12–15. A re-seal when the surface starts to look chalky extends any of them.
Most residential decks take 1–2 days of work. Light foot traffic is fine after 24–48 hours. Furniture, grills, pets and pool service wait for the 3–7 day cure, longer in cool or humid weather.
We quote every project from the actual surface, in writing, and the estimate is free. Square footage, how much failing coating has to come off, the number of cracks and spalls, steps and coping, access, and the system you choose all move the number. Resurfacing sound concrete generally costs far less than demolition and a new pour.
Usually, yes, with a texture coating system, as long as the old coating is still bonded; loose or hollow areas are stripped first. Genuine Keystone Kool Deck® itself only bonds to bare, sound concrete, so redoing a deck in real Kool Deck means stripping every existing coating first. That is why most re-coats of an existing deck are coating.
